During the 2000 World Health Organization meeting, a report issued stated that many chemicals are found in high concentration in the blood of Americans and Europeans. 

Europe decided it was a time for a change when they discovered that carcinogenic chemicals were being released from consumer products like diapers and softeners in baby toys. They discovered that neither the consumers nor the governments were informed about the chemical properties in those products and how they broke down or out-gassed. As a result, Europeans formed the European Union or EU. 

In 2003 the EU formed REACH –Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals. REACH is the first effort to secure environmental data on some 30,000 chemicals, many are included in the FDA’s “grandfathered” chemicals that are being used in the U.S. and around the world.

In the United States, we have several public health alliance groups i.e.: Friends of the Earth, Unison, and the Association for Public Health to name a few. The Environmental Working Group is a valuable information resource as well. But our government (FDA) has total control over any policy change.
